the drowned world by indojo the drowned world by indojo
this illustration is for the novel "The Drowned World" from James G. Balllard. I did it some years ago and i had just a black and white photo left, so i recolored this in photoshop.
the original painting was done with watercolors.

i found an photo of the original watercolour-painting now:

the drowned world by *indojo Suggester says: "Outstanding work! Everything here is impressive - details, the mood. I love this depiction of a world where the natural environment has reclaimed itself from our intrusion. Fantastic!" ( Suggested by Mishelangello and Featured by MacRebisz )

I remember this novel! And I also remember how it's cover amazed me by its beauty and mix of architecture and wild jungle trees and fronds. :) Beautiful work.

I like how although there are several colors used, there is still the faded quality that tricks my mind into thinking there is only one. I really like this dystopic view of the world.

Very nice! The colors give it a slightly surreal old-print look, and there is something almost wood-cut-like about that crocodile on the left, while other parts look more photographic. It's quite eye-catching, in the sense of "will lead you to look at if for a while" rather than "flashy."

(How many ways did Ballard destroy the world, anyway? :) )

thanks a lot, i am really happy you enjoy that peace. you are right,
ballard really was a master of apokalypse and special this

Oh wow! I loved the scene. It makes me want to read the book.
I loved how you did the water and the vegetations.
Also I liked the color combination, the ochre gives the feeling of an old paper. Almost it looks that it's damaged by moisture, was that intentional or was it a coincidence? :?
