I can't even imagine getting that kind of personal space! These days I'm lucky if I even get the house to myself for an hour or two...three square miles - that must really have been something...

it is a great feeling, i guess it is the same somewhere in
arizona which a lot of empty deserts. friend told me there you drive the car just throughout the middle of nowhere. 3 squaremiles is the most empty space i can imagine here, i counted
also houses where people still where sleeping inside ;-)

I do remember many, many years ago, a ride from Aspen Colorado to Denver - five hours and vast stretches of time with almost no signs of civilization. We'd see a house and then not another for maybe five or ten miles. It was really something - very peaceful...

but the drama than always happens where the few houses are,
not in the wilderness :-)
